Ethical Savings
Ethical Savings

Credit Unions support 'financial inclusion' - making sure that everyone can get financial services at an affordable cost. Members pool their savings to lend to one another at fair interest rates, which are often better than those on offer with high street banks or building societies. This means that saving with a Credit Union can give you a good financial return, but also has a direct positive impact on your local community.

Why save with a Credit Union?

When you save with a Credit Union, you are not just a customer, but you also have a say in the way things are done. Furthermore, you will receive a share in the union's profits rather than a fixed interest rate on your savings. Our members also have a choice to re-invest any profits back into the union.

So by saving with a Credit Union you help it sustain itself and grow, which has two benefits:
  1. Financial Return: When the union grows, so does your dividend.
  2. Social Return: When the union grows, more people in your local community have access to financial services they may have been refused elsewhere, which directly helps to combat poverty and keeps local money, local.

As a member, you can benefit from competitive rates on loans and take part in our payroll deduction schemes.

How does it work?

When you sign up, we will open your savings account and you can immediately start saving by:

  • Using Pay Point at your local Post Office
  • Using one of our payroll deduction schemes, which means your savings are automatically deducted from your pay packet and paid directly into your savings account. (limited to certain employers)
  • Pay in by Standing Order through your bank
We believe that for every £1,000 invested in the Credit Union, we could reduce the amount of interest payments made to higher cost lenders by £500. Your savings are safe!

We are members of the Financial Services Authority Compensation Scheme.

Corporate Social Responsibility

We work closely with a number of supportive partners and organisations to promote the credit union ethics and services to all residents and workers within West Sussex to ensure that we continue to grow and increase our influence with financial inclusion.

The support that we have received has been invaluable with helping the credit union develop our own business model and take control of our own future sustainability.
